Friendships have come pretty easy to me most of my life. I had a core group of girls I grew up with, and have stayed close with some as we made into adulthood.
When I became a mother I had no idea how important friendship with other mothers would become. I joined a moms’ group when my first child was 9 months old, I created my own group about six months later, and have continued to connect with moms throughout my motherhood journey.
It’s difficult for me to imagine not having women to share life with, but there are many who struggle with making friends.
As mothers and wives we have so many responsibilities that friendships can seem like too much work.
There’s been pain from a friendship broken apart by jealousy, competition, gossip, or rejection. I can recall a few relationships that ended unexpectedly, and I still don’t know why.
If you have a hard time making friends or have been hurt by someone you thought was a friend then this prayer is for you.
Dear Weary Mama, A Prayer For When Friendship is Hard
Your Word says that
“a sweet friendship refreshes the soul” Proverbs 27:9
I miss having friends, Lord.
My life is overwhelmed with responsibilities,
and I have put relationships with other
women low on my priority list.
I miss laughing and being silly with my friends.
I miss sharing and connecting when I need a
someone to listen. You know I have been hurt
before Lord, but I am trusting you to heal
the pain and bring new relationships to life.
Please help me put my fear and anxiety aside,
and help me open up to new experiences.
You created community for our good, and I am
tired of being lonely. I pray you will renew
my heart. Help me connect with other women,
and begin sharing my life with others.
In Jesus’ name,
