Earlier today I sat at my desk with a big secret behind my fingertips. I pondered over sharing it with anyone because the weight of it seemed heavy and a bit heartbreaking.
This news is heavy because it’s contains a new adventure for me, one with risk and reward. It’s heartbreaking because I’ve been protecting my fragile heart for far too long.
I became comfortable in my desire to keep certain walls up around me, careful to not expect too much of myself. Sure, I opened up to new friendships, connections, and opportunities, but they all had to fit in between the walls surrounding my heart.
This heart has faced many momentous life-altering changes. After a while it waited for the fallout because that’s what it grew accustomed to. There were plenty of pure joy moments too, but when the pain is driven deep into those soul crevices it’s painstakingly difficult to let it all heal.
God’s been dealing with my heart marks for years now with success and setbacks. The biggest change occurred last May when He moved our family again. The process of working through a move is long and exhausting. But, I am beginning to feel myself breathe again…to almost let myself feel safe.
Safe from another move.
Safe to make friends.
Safe to put the hard work into my marriage and family.
Safe to face my past so I can move forward in big ways.
Last September the Lord opened my eyes and heart to a new possibility. I heard about Life Coaching before and wondered if I would be talented enough to try one day. I love encouraging other women, hearing their stories, and connecting on a deeper level of friendship. I knew that somehow Life Coaching would help me in my journey to help women. So I signed up for the certification process and began taking classes.
I learned Coaching was much more involved than I imagined.
“Coaching is the art of and practice of enabling individuals and groups to move from where they are to where they want to be.” – Gary R. Collins
Life Coaching is not for the woman who needs to work through her past, but the woman who wants to move forward and build her dreams, vision, and objective.
Life Coaching is for the woman who feels stuck in her job, in her mothering, in her marriage, or in her routine. She wants to gain a fresh perspective on life but is not sure how to get there.
Life Coaching is for the woman who wants to focus on her strengths and build skills and focus less on overcoming weaknesses.
Life Coaching is a partnership between two women, one has the skill, knowledge, perspective and experience to help the other.
Now you know a little of what coaching is. But, how does it work?
A coach is trained to assume YOU are the one best able and most likely to find direction and move forward. As your coach I provide thought-provoking questions to help you understand your motives, desires, and perspective.
I love this description of coaching from Gary Collins:
“Coaches do not claim to bring expertise or special knowledge about the client’s area of interest. Coaches stand alongside the people who are coached, helping them envision their future directions, guiding as they formulate their goals, and encouraging them to take action steps. Coaches avoid giving advice or specific suggestions. By their example and skilled questioning, coaches encourage, challenge, and motivate others to clarify their own life directions and gain confidence and commitment, and to move forward to the place they want to be.”
Doesn’t that sound amazing?! And when we add the aspect of an Almighty God, His plan for your life, and the Holy Spirit’s influence on our time together, nothing can stop you from achieving your dreams!
So this is my big secret!
My friends in real life and on social media know I am certified. I shared with them last week that I had turned in my exam. This weekend I received news that I am a Certified Life Coach!
I have been working for days on my website, building pages, tweaking words and sentences, and now it is complete. It’s ready to be introduced to all of you with big hopes and dreams for the future. I’m trusting that God is good, that He will break my heart wide open and ready it for new adventure.
Will you join me?
You can live authentically through Jesus with passion and purpose!
Do you have goal for the year? Maybe a secret like mine that you desire more than anything to give life to? I’d love to hear about your adventure!
