The bible has so many verses about controlling our tongues. My first post, 12 Bible Verses for when You Need to Tame Your Mouth is the second highest visited post on this blog! The searches on google about this topic have had me smiling and understanding more and more the true need for us humans to get a handle on our speech.
Searches include, taming your tongue, the bible on shutting my mouth, bible verses about shutting up, bible verses about controlling your mouth, what the bible says about telling someone to shut up, and many more!
As I went through the bible researching what else the Word has to say about controlling our mouths I thought about all the messages we hear today from the world.
There is so much hate being slung around through words. Social media is a landmine full of outrageous speech, thoughtless comments, and cruel insults. Many hide behind their computer screens spewing hate at people they have never met. We feel so comfortable with virtual reality that we forget about the real human lives behind the profile pictures.
I admit that I’ve read Facebook updates, Twitter tweets, and Instagram graphics that have made my stomach turn. The lack of sensitivity to others’ feelings and opinions is beyond me, and I’m often shocked at how Christians respond in these situations.
How are we supposed to respond when we live with Holy Spirit dwelling inside our souls? Now let me be clear, I am the first person who needs to know every one of these verses. I can fly off the handle with the best of them. When reading the following verses I felt convicted by ALL of them. Thank God for GRACE!
I hope these verses speak truth to your heart and help you find a way to speak kindness and love to others.
