The Lord is near to all who call upon him. ~Psalm 145:18
This week we are focusing on Psalm 145:18. David sings praise to God in Psalm 145 and mentions many of the ways God provides for his people. Verse 18 is one of my favorites. David reminds us that God is near to anyone that calls on him.
I’ve learned over the years that God is a gentleman. He will not push himself into our lives, he won’t make us do his will. The Lord is patient with us, and his greatest desire is for us to WANT to be intimate with him.
So often we (or maybe just me) place too much emphasis on our own will. We believe the lie that tells us we’re capable of doing all of life by ourselves. We push and push until there’s nothing left to give and then wonder why exhaustion and and depression take over. If we’d lay our lives down each day I’m sure we could avoid many of the issues we deal with.
But we’re human. Our weakness and sin is what made Jesus go to the cross for us in the first place. He took the burden we continually place on our own shoulders and worked out our salvation through torture, death, and darkness.
What other love story continually sacrifices and waits for us?
Call on the Lord. He can handle every broken dream, every traumatic story, every messy relationship, and every question you have. He waits with anticipation for you to come to him with everything.
As I journaled this page I thought of the times I tried to work out life on my own terms. God allowed me to make mistakes, claim victories, and struggle through pain of my making. He also graciously picked me up when I had nothing left to give. The times my heart was broken into a million pieces and the times my soul felt itself slipping away…He was there.
