Welcome to our family’s Redemption Diary. I’m Sarah Knepper, a stay-at-home mama and wife to an engineer. We have three children, Gabe, Shelby, and Jonah, and will welcome baby Anna in October. I love to read (Southern authors are my favorite), be outside, spend time with friends, and go on dates with my husband although those are few and far between.
And I’ve always had a passion for writing and helping others. I wrote my first story in fifth grade about three friends who discover a city at the bottom of the ocean. I’ve kept a journal for years and always dreamed of writing a novel. Life unfolded much differently for me than expected and things changed dramatically when I became a single mother to my three small children in the summer of 2009. I found myself searching for others who had experienced abandonment at such a hard season of life. I went back to school and completed the Master’s program. It was a hard few years and many times I wanted to give up. But God was there providing protection all along even when I didn’t believe it.
Fall 2011 I met Bryan and after a whirlwind romance we married in June of 2012. Soon after our wedding Bryan lost his job and after eight months of waiting he was hired by a small engineering firm in Ohio. So we packed up the kids in the mini-van and moved to Buckeye Country.
Soon after our arrival I knew our story needed to be told. I confided in a few online friends that I wanted to write a blog and received great encouragement. And that is how the first Redemption Diary was born. Over the past year I’ve met wonderful women who give amazing support and love through words. I’ve been able to share parts of our story, including our step-parent adoption, and connect with other women who have been through different types of trauma.
Last July I had the distinct privilege to join up with Jo Ann Fore on her book launch for When a Woman Finds Her Voice: Overcoming Life’s Hurts and Using Your Story to Make a Difference. I lead the women through the weekly link-ups as we shared our journey through the book and our own healing. Jo Ann became one of my very best friends and I write for her blog: Jo Ann Fore.
As I’ve grown through my writing I saw a change necessary to Redemption Diary. I believe in sharing the experiences I’ve had with pain and healing. I’ve discussed depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other very serious and real issues women face. But I want my blog to be a happy place as well. With the help of my friend NJ from A Cookie Before Dinner we are revamping this space and giving it a facelift.
I hope you will stay for a while and be encouraged by all the grace I share on these diary pages. They are my heart and soul and here for you to know you are not alone.
